About Bellpark

History

In 1965, a need arose for another primary school in Bellville as the existing Bellville-Noord Primary School had more than 700 learners. The new primary school also had to make provision for English-speaking learners. Bellpark Primary School officially opened its doors on 21 January 1969 with 9 staff members and 249 learners. The school was named after the wife of the first principal, Mr. Willie van Schoor.

She derived the Bell from Bellville. The Park refers to the squares in the school courtyard which were eventually converted into parks with trees. It was Mrs. Van Schoor’s plan that there would be enough shade for learners during breaks. The first official ceremony held at the school was a tree planting ceremony in March 1969. The two elements are clearly visible in the school badge designed by Dr. C. Pama.

The three bells represent Bellville and can also be seen on the official city badge of Bellville. The tree is a Silver Tree and represents the trees in the squares. The school motto is “Growth” and ties in with the theme of the trees as well as the learners who will grow in the school. The school song was written by one of the teachers, Mr. Jack Viljoen, and set to music by two of the music teachers, Mrs. B. de Kock and J. de Villiers.

There are currently 800 learners in the school with a staff of 63.
